Maple Granola YUM! This can be changed around to include all your favourites, but the basic recipe is here for you to try. You will need: - Baking sheet, greased or lined with parchment paper - 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (not instant) - 3/4 cup sliced or slivered almonds - 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds - 1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds - 1/2 tablespoon wheat germ (optional) - 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon salt - 2 tablespoons canola oil or unsalted melted butter - 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (dark Grade A is best, but any will do) - 1 cup dried fruits (cranberries, cherries, apricots, dates, figs, raisins) (optional) What To Do: - Place oven rack in centre of oven. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Combine the oats, nuts, seeds, wheat germ, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, stir together the oil (or melted butter) and maple syrup.
- Pour the syrup mixture over the dry ingredients and toss together until all the dry ingredients are coated in the liquid.
- Spread evenly out onto the prepared pan and place in the oven.
- Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, until it is all golden brown. It can be stirred so that it can all brown evenly. (NOTE: The browner the granola gets without burning, the crunchier it will be)
- Remove from oven to cool for at least 30 minutes. If it looks sticky, it will dry out as it cools.
- Break up any larger lumps with a wooden spoon before it is completely cooled.
- After mixture is completely cooled, add the dried fruits and mix well.
- Store it in an airtight container or sealed bag in the fridge. It will keep for a couple weeks.
Yogurt Smoothie You Will Need: - 1 cup yogurt, plain, vanilla, or flavoured - 1 cup milk - Fresh or frozen fruit (bananas, favourite berries, peaches, cantaloupe and more) - A blender - An adult to help What To Do: - Put all ingredients into a blender.
- Use blender setting “puree” if fruit is frozen. “Blend” is usually okay for fresh.
- Blend it all until mostly smooth, but so all large fruit chunks are gone.
- Pour it into a glass and drink!
