Maple Granola

YUM! This can be changed around to include all your favourites, but the basic recipe is here for you to try.

You will need:
- Baking sheet, greased or lined with parchment paper
- 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (not instant)
- 3/4 cup sliced or slivered almonds
- 1/2 cup raw sunflower seeds
- 1/2 cup raw pumpkin seeds
- 1/2 tablespoon wheat germ (optional)
- 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons canola oil or unsalted melted butter
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup (dark Grade A is best, but any will do)
- 1 cup dried fruits (cranberries, cherries, apricots, dates, figs, raisins) (optional)

What To Do:

  1. Place oven rack in centre of oven. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Combine the oats, nuts, seeds, wheat germ, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together the oil (or melted butter) and maple syrup.
  4. Pour the syrup mixture over the dry ingredients and toss together until all the dry ingredients are coated in the liquid.
  5. Spread evenly out onto the prepared pan and place in the oven.
  6. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, until it is all golden brown. It can be stirred so that it can all brown evenly.  (NOTE: The browner the granola gets without burning, the crunchier it will be)
  7. Remove from oven to cool for at least 30 minutes. If it looks sticky, it will dry out as it cools.
  8. Break up any larger lumps with a wooden spoon before it is completely cooled.
  9. After mixture is completely cooled, add the dried fruits and mix well.
  10. Store it in an airtight container or sealed bag in the fridge. It will keep for a couple weeks.

Yogurt Smoothie

You Will Need:
- 1 cup yogurt, plain, vanilla, or flavoured
- 1 cup milk
- Fresh or frozen fruit (bananas, favourite berries, peaches, cantaloupe and more)
- A blender
- An adult to help

What To Do:

  1. Put all ingredients into a blender.
  2. Use blender setting “puree” if fruit is frozen. “Blend” is usually okay for fresh.
  3. Blend it all until mostly smooth, but so all large fruit chunks are gone.
  4. Pour it into a glass and drink!
