What’s really required to go back to school? 

Use this list to get a bare-bones start to the new school year!  And if you’re feeling indulgent, consider a few items on the Ultra List too…

BARE ESSENTIALS:
- a backpack (try not to cheap out on this, your back will thank you)
- a binder with enough dividers for each class (to step up from this, have one binder per subject)
- lined paper
- pencil (if you prefer a pen, okay, but you’ll need whiteout)
- eraser
- ruler
- combination lock

Subject-Specific Stuff

Math – a calculator
Gym – clothes and running shoes
Any class with maps – colouring pencils, blank paper, compass set
Co-op/Work Placement – a wardrobe appropriate for the work environment

ULTRA LIST (as few or as many as you want/need/dream about!)

- backpack or messenger bag
- lined paper
- blank paper
- graph paper
- coloured paper
- pencils, consider the mechanical type
- erasers
- pens, blue, black and red inks minimum
- ruler
- combination lock-themed, digital or 4-digit
- binders, one per subject, with whiteboard fronts for notes
- whiteboard markers for the fancy binder fronts
- plastic subject dividers with pockets for non-punched handouts
- 3-hole punch
- scientific calculator
- math/compass set
- stapler
- staple remover
- whiteout, liquid or tape
- glue stick
- colouring pencils
- pencil sharpener, electric or battery operated are really nice
- markers, thin and thick line tips
- pencil case
- lunch bag, coordinated to your backpack
- cellophane tape
- highlighting markers, at least 4 colours
- report covers, multiple colours
- sticky notes
- sticky tabs for marking items in the textbook
- bristol board
- locker shelf
- locker mirror
- locker magnetic “stuff” holder
- bus pass (we could have listed a car, but let’s not go crazy!)
- jump drive (for bringing work home)
- mp3 player with recording function to record important lectures
- running shoes
- dress shoes
- new clothes; tops and bottoms and outerwear
- a watch to get to class on time
- desk
- student chair
- computer or laptop
