Congratulations to Lee-Ann Barlow of Durham, the winner of our Gee, I See Summer Contest!
Lee-Ann receives $250 for this description of her important savings goal.
In my life, I have always been taught to save my money for something special that I might want to buy in the future. When I was little, that might have been a stuffed animal or a new game, but as I grew, so did my goals. This summer, my mom and I are travelling to Europe for 28 days. Over the past year, I have been saving my allowance, working, and putting aside gift money so that we can afford to go. I have always wanted to see Europe, and without my contribution, we would not be able to afford the trip. We decided that it would be better to see as much as we could while we are there, as we don¹t know whether we will ever get to go back. In order to maximize the amount we do and see, we needed more time than we could afford. So that we didn¹t have to change our trip, I decided to limit my spending and maximize my earnings. Any money that I received as gifts went directly into my account, along with 75% of my weekly allowance. I knew that this still wouldn’t amount to what was needed, so I applied for a part-time job as a receptionist at a health and wellness centre. The money that I make is added to the money that I have already saved on my own. Hopefully by July, when my mom and I leave for our trip, I will have enough to cover the difference between what my family can afford, and what we are actually doing.
We hope the trip was fabulous Lee-Ann!
The Sequel… from Lee-Anne
Hi,
This July, my mom and I had the chance of a lifetime and were able to travel to Europe for four weeks. We flew to Vienna, spent a day there, and then traveled to Italy. We spent time in Venice, Pompeii, and Rome before going to Switzerland. After some a few days in Switzerland we headed to Paris, then Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg, and finally Germany. It’s really difficult to choose a favourite part, as everything we saw and did was so different. It was an amazing experience, and I hope to be able to do more traveling in the future.
Here’s photo taken on my trip.
