| Brother, Can You Spare a Job? It can be hard to find a new job for young people this year. Even if you have a part-time job already, extra hours may not be available. There are some great ways to earn money, especially in the summertime, if you are willing to make an effort and work hard. It requires some knocking on doors sometimes, or posting of fliers in the neighbourhood to advertise your services. Make sure you check with your parents and work out what might be a reasonable amount to charge before you start, as customers like to have a set rate to consider. Cover any costs first and give yourself a good wage for every hour involved so it is worth your while but still affordable for your customers. Lawn Care Cutting grass, trimming hedges, pulling weeds, etc. Best to use your own lawnmower and tools. This means you know how to use them, won’t hurt yourself with unfamiliar equipment, and can take it home if something breaks. Best customers are seniors who find it difficult to do this work themselves, small businesses who may have a small lawn but cut back on a maintenance company this year, and neighbours who are going away. Always be respectful of people’s property. Baby-sitting If you like kids, this may be a great way to earn money this summer! You could have many customers each week, or just one family that relies on you. Try to get a job like this by telling friends and neighbours personally, NOT by advertising. Junk Removal If you drive and have access to either a small trailer or a pick-up, you could offer services in junk removal. Find out all the rules at the local dump or transfer station and let people know you can load their junk up and take it away for a reasonable fee. Other Ideas - Dog Walking
- House Painting (let the homeowner choose the colour or buy the paint and you do the work)
- Driveway Sealing (this is tar-like paint applied with a long-handled squeegee type thing). If you do a good job on one driveway, you can point it out to neighbours when you offer the same to them
