Jane Brown
4 Generations at the credit union (and counting!)

Jane is a longtime member who has experienced the benefits of belonging to the credit union over four decades. Her husband who was in the Police Services at Strachan Division for 20 years, died in 1967 and Jane was left to bring up four children, ages 7 to 15 years old, on her own. Jane rose to the challenge, going back to business school at Humber. She became a bookkeeper, working evenings at Eaton's for vacation money. Now there are four generations in her family who are members of the Police Credit Union including her great grandchild! And Jane, who is still always on the go, continues to make a valuable contribution working two mornings a week as Treasurer for the MTPPA.

"I love the CU - they've always been good to me. I remember back in '65 when the branch was on Yonge Street. It was on the second floor of an old house. My husband automatically joined when he got the job. We had our main account there but I wanted my own independent account."

"You get to know the staff. They always knew exactly who you are by your voice and that was before caller id! And they new your account number right off the bat. At the credit union, you talk to a real person - that is so important!  Anyone who answers the phone can give me an answer. I also enjoy going in and seeing who I'm dealing with."

"Three of my kids are still members and I've set up trusts for my grandchildren. They used to wonder why they got two birthday cards from the credit union every year. Their parents opened up Tyke and Teen accounts for them and I was trying to keep the accounts I opened for them a secret! I've got a great granddaughter there now too."

Her advice?

"It's not about the million; it's what you do with what you have!"
